Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Program

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative is launched by Government of India to improve the Child Sex Ratio and ensure girls’ education towards ensuring gender equality. It focuses on multi-sectoral interventions in 161 gender critical districts, where the Child Sex Ratio is very low, with interventions involving implementation of the PC & PNDT Act, strengthening community action, improving retention of girls in elementary and secondary schools, ensuring the availability of functional toilets for girls, capacity-building and sensitization of government officials and grass-roots functionaries. The main objective of the scheme is to celebrate the Girl Child and enable her Education.

Specific Objectives

● Prevent gender biased sex selective elimination

● Ensure survival and protection of the girl child

● Ensure education on girl child

To support the effective implementation of the program CECOEDECON with the technical and financial support of UNFPA , is working in Sawai Madhopur districts from the year 2015.

Strategies adopted to support the program are: Capacity Building, Mentoring, establishing model processes etc.

Activities

⮚ Life skill education to adolescent girls through meetings of girls groups

⮚ Establishing model processes

⮚ Training of teachers on Gender, PCPNDT, POCSO , Child Marriage act etc.

⮚ Training of Anganwari workers on Gender,PCPNDT,POCSO, Child marriage act etc.

⮚ Orientation of front line workers on on Gender Safety Audit

Achievements:

o Engagement with 2488 girls (including 908 out of school girls) ensured in 90 Gram Panchayats

o Institutional mechanisms have been strengthened

o Improved convergence in Organizing health check up camps, training on self defense, construction of toilets in schools are few decisions taken in DTF and executed at field level.

o 7 Girl Friendly Gram Panchayats are established

o In all the schools of girl friendly gram panchayats complaint boxes are installed.

o The model of developing Girl Friendly Gram Panchayat is being adopted for replication in other areas too.

o Guidelines for developing girl friendly gram panchayat were developed and approved by the department
